Carpet Cleaning for Pets – Remove Pet Stains and Odors

Dog with spots falling off - remove pet stains and odors

Pets bring a lot of love into our homes, but they also bring a lot of stains and odors. No matter how well trained your pet is, accidents happen. Kittens take time to get used to new litter boxes, and excitable pups tend to pee when they get excited.

Whatever the reason for pet stains, you must act fast, it can become impossible to get out of your carpets. You need to have a plan for cleaning up any urine and stains that might occur in your home. This is why we are here to fix your furry friends’ accidents whenever they happen.

Can Professional Carpet Cleaning Remove Pet Odors?

Professional carpet cleaning services will remove most debris, but shampoo might not be able to remove pet smells completely. Hot water activates the bacteria in the urine, giving it the distinct odor we pet owners have come to dread. Using steam after a carpet shampoo will release the pet odors in your carpets, not get rid of them.

Here at Be Green Carpet Cleaning, saving water and using safer products is our priority. This is why dry foam encapsulation is the best way to remove pet stains and odors from your carpet.

Why Can’t I Use a Traditional Carpet Cleaner?

When using pet stain remover and carpet cleaning products, you’re only focusing on the surface level of your carpets. Household cleaners only deodorizer the surface and temporarily eliminate pet odors while lifting the surface-level waste from your carpet. This method might help tide you over, but it won’t fix the problem in the long term.

Our Pet Stain and Odor Removal Services

Most household carpet cleaning products only treat the surface of your carpet. Products like this are fine for temporarily cleaning the visible part of the animal waste or stains on the carpet. While these products can provide a temporary fix, they won’t remove pet stains and odors longterm.

How to Remove Pet Odors and Stains

We aim to completely remove pet odors and stains from your carpet using our dry encapsulation method of cleaning carpets. Our method provides a more permanent solution than any temporary over-the-counter carpet cleaning product can provide.

Pet Urine Odor Removal

The Be Green all natural solutions remove pet odors and stains quickly. Our proprietary “KillOdorizer” penetrates deep into the carpet’s surface to eliminate all the foul smelling dried urine crystals. Every service comes with a satisfaction guarantee, if you’re not completely happy, then you don’t pay for it!

How Our Pet Stain and Odor Removal Service Works:

Step 1: Evaluate the Situation

Be Green carpet cleaning experts will come to your home and move any furniture that one person can safely move. They will then expertly analyze your home using a blacklight and make note of all the areas that need attention. Removing pet stains and odors starts with identifying sneaky pee spots and hidden animal marking areas in the beginning.

Step 2: Pretreatment – Rake, Vacuum, & Spot Treat

Raking carpet to dislodge dot and cat urine
Raking the carpet will dislodge all the trapped dust & dirt

Using a rake, your service provider will dislodge any trapped dust, dirt, and other solid particles. Carpet raking loosens the solid particles and the stiff nylon bristles comb through the fibers to remove long pet hair. Raking is a painstaking process because it requires stamina and strength. However, it is a crucial step before vacuuming and spraying on the enzyme spotter.

A thorough vacuuming making sure not to miss corners and edges.
A thorough vacuuming covers corners and edges.

After a vigorous raking, your service provider will start vacuuming. Corners and edges will get extra special attention. Professional grade vacuums have their filters cleaned out in-between every appointment. A thorough vacuuming will remove pet hair, dirt, bugs, and fecal matter traffic’d in from pet’s feet. Only fats, oils, germs and bacteria remain. Before applying any new moisture we strive to remove as much dry material as possible. This is important because water + dirt = mud, and mud is much harder to remove!

To begin the spot treatment process, your service provider will spray a fermented spotter enzyme solution all over the fibers. Areas with stubborn stains or heavy soils will get special attention.

Our pretreatment solution is an all natural enzyme solution which contains the active ingredient: Protease (Subtilisin). Before arriving to your home, your service provider will have prepared this spotter solution for weeks ahead of time. This enzyme is a highly reactive organic compound and has fermented for weeks. It actually get’s stronger with age. Once the enzyme is ripe, it becomes super effective at breaking chemical bonds and digesting proteins. Next, the spotting solution get’s applied everywhere (sprayed). This is where the magic starts to happen: a chemical reaction breaks down the proteins, fats, and oils which dissipate into basic amino acids, peptides, and carbon molecules. Of course, this treatment is safe for pets and children. Carbon detectors may trigger the alarms. This is not uncommon, it just means the organic chemical reaction is working! Standard ventilation will displace the air quickly.

Step 3: Shampoo – Cleanse the Carpet

Carpet Shampoo

After the spot treatment, your service provider will message the carpet with a bubbly foam shampoo and citric acid mixture. The carpet shampoo is a surfactant soap and will unfold the left over proteins, leaving behind zero residue. Additionally, the citric acid acts as an all natural brightener to make the white’s whiter and colors more vivid. Citric acid is less harsh than chemicals like hydrogen peroxide or bleach. Fun fact: citric acid is an organic compound and abundantly found in nature. It’s what makes oranges, lemons and limes taste so sour!

During the shampoo, Be Green service providers are careful to not to “soak” the carpet. Keeping the moisture content as low as possible helps prevent mildew, mold and other bacteria regrowth. This is where your carpets get the refreshing bath they deserve. All of the previously sticky and gummed up carpet fibers will now be clean and smoothed.

After the shampoo, the carpets immediately begin to look cleaner and brighter. However, pungent odors from dog or cat urine may smell even worse now that the moisture has reactivated pee spots. Pet owners should additionally purchase deodorizer and stain guard (protection) described in the next steps.

Step 4: Disinfect and Deodorize

After your carpet has been shampoo’d, the carpet will look much brighter and feel rejuvenated to the touch. But looks aren’t everything! The only thing that’s going to remove pet stains and odors is KillOdorizer (our powerfully effective deodorizing solution). The strength of the deodorizer solution varies because it depends on the severity of your issue. Everybody’s home is different and our beloved pets always find ways to leave behind messes. Even the most strictly trained animals find hidden places to mark their territory, it’s just in their instinctual nature. We love our pets so much, but their outdoor tendencies can be a real pain. Trust us, we’ve seen it all!

KillOdorizer work’s wonders because it has two primary active ingredients: methyl alcohol, and all natural essential oils. The methyl alcohol is the sanitizing disinfection agent, which quickly destroys germs, bacteria, and animal waste festering in the carpet. The essential oils provide a refreshing light fragrance to enhance the feeling of your newly cleaned carpet. KillOdorizer is available in several different scents and the fragrances are extracted from all natural plant and other fruit sources.

(Optional but necessary for pet accidents)

As mentioned above, adding a deodorizer is an optional purchase because it’s application varies drastically from home to home. Severely soiled areas require multiple applications of disinfectant, while other areas may only need 1 single application to smell fantastic. Your service provider will analyze every area with a blacklight to determine how many applications of disinfectant your home needs. We often find pet accidents in hidden areas. Regardless, you can’t go wrong by adding applications of KillOdorizer onto your order. Keep in mind: some rooms may need more, while some rooms may need less.

Step 5: Soil Retardant (Optional)

Finally, fully protect your carpets with a high quality stain guard. You may choose to add on an application of stain guard protection. Our soil retardant is like a force field against future stains and pet accidents. Although it will not train your cat to use a toilet, or show your dog to the doggy door, it will provide a silicone based protective layer to your carpet fibers which makes pet urine & other accidents much easier to clean up in between professional cleanings. Soil Retardant is the cherry on top add on to help you protect your investment and keep your carpets looking and smelling fresh all year long.

Pet Carpet Stain Cleaning Tips

When pet accidents happen in your home, acting quickly is extremely important. If you find a fresh urine stain or pet waste, you may be able to prevent long-term staining and odors with the proper methods.

  • Pick up waste: If your pet has thrown up or defecated on your carpet, pick up as much as possible before focusing on the stain.
  • Blot the stain: Apply a clean, dry cloth over the stain and press down firmly to absorb any moisture. Avoid rubbing, as this can rub the stain into the fibers of your carpet.
  • Rinse the stain: Using a wet clean cloth, apply it to the stain until the area is damp. You don’t want to soak your carpet; if you add too much water, the urine or stain will soak deeper into the carpet.
  • Blot the area until dry: Apply another clean cloth to blot the rinsed area. Repeat until there is no more liquid to absorb.
  • Repeat steps 2 and 3: Repeat these steps until there are no more stains visible and as little odor as possible.
  • Note: There are some pet & child friendly natural house hold cleaning solutions available for DIY use, although you should read the labels carefully and make sure to follow the instructions as best you can. We’re happy to refer you to our friends over at The Pet Fix for handheld spray solutions that you can use yourself. Just keep in mind, these solutions may work well temporarily, but they will not come anywhere close to providing a full on professional carpet cleaning from a Be Green Service Provider.

If your pet stain has settled or leaked into the subfloor, this method won’t work. However, this process will work on fresh stains, so try to catch them as soon as possible.

Using these methods, you can easily help prevent accident stains and help take any old stains and odors out of your carpet for good.
